Breathitt County & Cheating the Gallows Straight Bourbon

Bad Tom Smith was an American Outlaw from Breathitt County, Kentucky. He spent most of his adult life Cheating the Gallows. Before the noose was placed around his neck, he spoke to the 5,000 people who came to see him hang. “Bad women and bad whiskey have brought me where I am, don’t drink bad whiskey and do as I have done”.

Bad Tom Smith’s Breathitt County Straight Bourbon & Cheating the Gallows Straight Bourbon best represent a time when he was feared in Eastern Kentucky. We only bottle barrel strength, small batches, holding nothing back in delivering Bad Ass In A Glass.

Breathitt County’s (21% Rye) tasting profile is caramel and vanilla with notes of fruit, dried fruit, and a slightly candied spice finish. The creamy vanilla and caramel nose is teased with dried fruit and cream with a light rye spice in the finish. European rye is used to create the spice finish and the barley malt is both 2 and 6 row and is grown in North America. Barrel ages range from 4 to 6 years with proofs between 110 - 125. It is truly smooth, warm and satisfying.

Cheating the Gallows (45% Wheat) tasting profile is vanilla and cream with notes of fruit. Sweet fruit notes of the corn add complexity, making it sweet and creamy. Barrel ages are 6+ years with proofs between 120-125.

To create the special taste of Breathitt County & Cheating the Gallows, the barrel staves are classic No.4 Char (55 seconds) with the heads No.2 (30 seconds).
